Almost always done digitally, may do traditional sketches at events. If I do, I will retain a photo of the sketch for portfolio and posterity :3
Digital Lineart- 30-50 USD per full character, 25-40 USD per half shot, 20-35 per bust (or partial additional)
This is the digital inking of the sketches. Line cleanup, small details, final fixes to shape and proportions.
Flat colors- 40-60 USD per full character, 32-48 USD per half shot, 28-42 per bust (or partial additional)
Simple color selection and sometimes tones or gradients, at my discretion. I don’t choose color willy-nilly, so it will be as balanced and expressive as possible rather than a bunch of paint bucket clicks.
Shaded- 60-90 USD per full character, 48-72 USD per half shot, 42-63 per bust (or partial additional)
As above, but adding shape and lighting to an image via shades and highlights. This is a painstaking and time consuming process to make the end result well worth it, so the price jumps here slightly (otherwise, I’d just blitz through sketches all day)
Effects- 70-100 USD per full character, 56-80 USD per half shot, 49-70 per bust (or partial additional)Fancy stuff like lens flare, glowing lightsabers and energy blasts, sun glare, et cetera. Added touch to enhance the effects of lighting and make the picture that much more effective.
Partial or simple background- add 15-30 USD
Very simple stuff like shapes or gradients or simple light sources will be on the lower end of this scale. Indications of background elements a little more, while full price will go to things like rocks or trees supporting the subject(s), the classic Wolverine on a wrecked Sentinel head, etc.
Detailed background- add 30-100 USD and up
This will vary greatly from piece to piece, as background elements do as well. Short answer is, if I spent as much or more time drawing and painting a landscape as the character(s) in it, it will cost at least as much as they did. But if you want your Elder Scrolls party standing on the bridge to the Mage’s College in Winterhold with the mountains of Skyrim stretched behind them and a sky full of aurora and moons, I’ll hook you up. I’m not scared of anything.
Numbers are given in a range due to how they must be evaluated case by case. A cartoon character or Sonic the Hedgehog will probably be at or fall off that low range, while Balthier from FFXII or the MCU version of an Avenger will probably reach the upper range or above.
All prices subject to change in order to stay competitive with my other work. I love drawing people’s ideas, but it must be worth the time and effort I put into it. Better off to start while I’m cheap!
Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line COMMISSION REQUEST. Include any ideas or details on the piece that you feel is relevant. Especially for an original character, please give as much detail as possible. Anything at all about their appearance that you want included in the artwork. Clothing, tattoos, mannerisms or facial expressions, you name it. It will better help me to figure out what you want and give it to you.
Once we’ve discussed the image and settled on a price, I will do a very rough sketch, if applicable. This will mean only blank character models and background elements for pose and positioning, usually not necessary for sketches or busts.
Payment and Completion
Once payment has been received, I will begin. This can take several days for regular pieces and might take several weeks for very large or extravagant orders, so please be patient. If you feel I have taken long enough to make you nervous, feel free to request an update no more than once a week via e-mail, and I’ll send you a low resolution WIP. That should only be necessary on the grandest projects, but I will try to accommodate. If at any reason I feel that I will be unable to finish the piece, you will receive a full refund, minus the PayPal commision.
While I’m on that subject, please understand that Paypal takes a portion of money transfers, and your final price will be plus that charge (usually around 3 USD).
